Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is an examination and treatment of soft tissue throughout the body. NMT aims to treat the underlying causes of chronic pain involving the muscular and nervous systems. This medically-oriented form of massage addresses trigger points (tender muscle points), circulation, nerve compression, postural issues, and biomechanical problems that can be caused by repetitive movement injuries. NMT can be combined with and is frequently included in mainstream medicine – including, integrative medicine, chiropractic care, and other medical modalities worldwide.

Neuromuscular Therapy Technique

Neuromuscular therapy is a concentrated level of consistent pressure on ischemia muscles. Ischemia muscle tissue, by definition, is muscle tissue that has an inadequate blood supply. When a muscle does not receive enough blood, it also does not receive enough oxygen, causing the muscle to produce lactic acid. Lactic acid makes the muscle feel sore and spasm.

Neuromuscular therapy relaxes the muscle through massage therapy. Neuromuscular therapy is painful at first (described by most as “good pain”), but will alleviate the muscle spasm.
